Job growth in Arizona is booming, and this trend may continue for many years as the United States comes to rely more on shipments of goods between states and from other countries. When compared to the national average, Arizona’s job openings are expected to increase 8% faster (O*Net, 2012). Salaries in this state are on par with national averages. Like the majority of states, Arizona requires you to have a commercial driver’s license before you can officially get paid for driving a tractor-trailer. Depending on the size of the vehicle you’ll be driving, you will need a Class A driver’s license or Class B driver’s license.
The Motor Vehicle Services Department of Arizona does not allow you to take your written and skills exam at the same time like many other states. Instead, you must first pass a written exam and receive an instructional permit. You can practice driving with your instructional permit for up to six months. Before the six-month period is over, you must schedule a driver’s test with your local Motor Vehicle Services office and apply for your license.
Because of the process that Arizona requires, the training class you choose may be split up into two parts. You may first complete a classroom portion that prepares you to earn your instructional permit. After you earn your instructional permit, you can return to class to get your driving hours completed. You can take your driving exam as soon as you feel confident in your skills.Truck driving is a field that offers many opportunities for growth. However, to take advantage of these opportunities, it’s important to network with drivers and owners in your area. The Arizona Trucking Association is the largest professional organization for Arizona truckers.
As a member of the Arizona Trucking Association, you’re free to take part in a variety of local events. The group offers regular educational seminars that can help you drive more safely and more efficiently. Membership meetings also keep you updated on the state of the economy and new job opportunities in your area.
In addition to events, you can use the services offered by the ATA. You can register your vehicle through them, get assistance with compliance issues, and get a discount on licensing fees.
